About the author
Lived experience, organised with a systems mind.
Ray Tollis writes as a patient and careful observer—not as a clinician.
Born in Sydney in the early 1950s and now living on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Ray has spent a lifetime building, learning and finding connections between seemingly separate parts of life.
His background spans hands-on construction, education, early computer software and national project roll-outs. That technical instinct—to understand how parts work together—now shapes how he approaches his own respiratory health.
The Circuit of Breath grew from the practical work of living with chronic lung disease: noticing patterns, maintaining routines, recording changes and working to communicate more clearly with healthcare professionals and the people closest to him.
Ray’s intention is to encourage curiosity, steadiness and active participation. The handbook shares one person’s framework and questions so readers can have richer conversations with their own qualified care teams.
